#669 MC TOY – LAMBORGHINI COUNTACH and FERRARI 250 GTO MINI (Around 1990)

MC Toy is a brand that copied and knocked off (not sure if this verb exists) many famous collections. I recently learnt that MC Toy made the Forest Families, which are a pretty obvious knock-off of Sylvanian Families.

In this case, we are going to talk about MC Toy knockoff of Micro Machines. The mini cars, that became popular by the latest 80s, probably came out in 1990. They are slightly larger than genuine Micro Machines, and have a metal body (not plastic). The car is not reproduced accurately, but in the “toon” style of Micro Machines. However, the metallic body, and mostly it’s thermopaint resemble the “Mini Color Racers” by Hot Wheels! (see #281). These are bigger in scale, and were released in 1990.

By that same year, MC Toy had a series of 1:64 models also with thermal paint, so they quickly adapted the idea for their “Micros” (see for example: #582).

  1. Wow, this seems to match similar vehicles that I have. A red one similar to the one above with three white stripes on the hood, a yellow one with two red stripes and two green stripes on the hood (alternating) and a blue convertible with a red flame on the hood. They're made of metal and seem to fit the description of the toy above but mine have nothing to indicate where they were from, just the mock underside of the vehicle they're based off of. I got them when I was very young and have been unable to ID them but the post here leads me to believe they're knockoffs as well.

    1. Hi, I am glad i could help you. If everything fits, they are probably mc toys. Check it next time you have them in your hands by comparing them to those in the pictures. All bases seem to be the same. If they match but they don't have the logo, or this one has been removed, consider that mc toyalso produced toys forthird companies, sometimes in alternative colours or decorations. I don't mention this in the article, but mc toy later became maisto, which is currently the top (or among the top 3) die-cast toy car manufacturer in the world. Thank for the comment. Feel free to share some pictures if you want.
