The Ford Granada was produced from 1972 to 1985, in several different versions. This toy represents the model between 1977 and 1985, also known as Mark II, that was manufactured for Europe in Germany. In 1985, the Ford Granada was replaced for the Scorpio.
In Spain, this car was reproduced by Mira and Guiloy, even though it was a rare car back then. I guess most people could only afford a smaller car, since the Granada was a quite big and expensive car. We’ll see the Guiloy model some other time, today I want to focus on the model made by Mira. I will be showing the key car version, some other time, I will present the “standard” version together with some other Mira models.
I have to mention, this car was a gift from Fernando, which I appreciate very much, he sent it to me without notice and I was very surprised to receive it. Thank you!
Back to the toy, the car is, as said before, a key-car. That means on the rear part of it, it has a hole with a spring where you insert the key, and then, the car can be launched at a very high speed. Note that the car has additional gum tyres on the rear wheels, so the car has more traction. Ordinary (hard plastic) wheels wouldn’t work so well.
The key is made of plastic and comes with a keyring which is the logo of the manufacturer (as seen on the blister card). The instructions are also printed there, in three steps. Further information on the car is that the toy is made in Spain, and that it is no(t) toxic. The car was obviously available in different colours.
UPDATE: This is the standard version of the Ford Granada (Ref. 175) (not the "Súper Rápidos", but the one without the key).
