#759 REAL GHOSTBUSTERS - MONSTERS DRACULA and FRANKENSTEIN (1989)

The real ghostbusters toyline probably needed more characters than the main four and a few ghosts. Most of the times, the ghosts in the cartoons, appeared only one, so the ghosts in the Real Ghostbusters toyline are invented or concepts made exclusively for the film.

In this wave, Kenner provided a series of 6 classic monsters:
  • Frankenstein
  • Dracula
  • The Hunchback from Notre-Dame
  • The Mummy
  • Werewolf
  • Zombie
I have two of them, and these are the ones I am showing today. They have similar features to the Fright Features versions of the main characters: when pushing one leg against the other each monster would move in a scary gesture. There are no transformation or hidden monsters. I like that the figures have different sizes.

The two figures I have are Frankenstein and Dracula. The first one is huge and adapts its classic pose with straight arms and open mouth. Unfortunately it is quite damaged by sunlight, so I will try to replace it soon.

Dracula is is good shape and includes its cloak, which is a difficult accesory to find. Dracula also performs a move that reminds of the classic pose from the Universal movies, in which Dracula opens his arms to approach his victims.

The two figures are really great, I am looking forward to get the other 4!

#645 REAL GHOSTBUSTERS - WICKED WHEELIE (1989)

In 1988, the Real Ghostbusters line released the Haunted Humans, ghosts with human appearance. This subseries comprised 6 figures (you can see three of them here: #360). The next year/wave, these figures were also available, as well as other ghosts "in disguise". These other haunted humans/objects were not marked with any subtitle, that is, they belonged to the general series, as the Fearsome Flush or the Full Speed Ahead Ghost (#105).

In this case, Wicked Wheelie is two ghosts in one, or a ghost with two parts. The driver´s face and belly can be opened revealing a mouth, thonge and eyes of a terrific monster. The motorbike turns into a terrifying insect-like monster. Has a certain similitude to the VW Bug "Highway Hunter" (#488). Both toys probably had the same designer.

There was a second, very similar, toy in this wave called Air Sickness, that comprised some kind of vehicle and a driver/pilot. When I complete it, I will update this entry.

  • Toy Line: The Real Ghostbusters (Wave 3)

#613 REAL GHOSTBUSTERS – HAUNTED HUMANS (Part II) (1988)

I finally got to get the X-cop, which was the only figure (out of 6) that I was missing. The first 3 figures were shown in a previous entry (#360), and now I present the other three. I do not like to leave series of toys "open", so I am glad I can publish now the 2nd and last part of the Haunted Humans figures from the Real Ghostbusters series.
These figures are:

X-Cop

Terror Trash

Hard Hat Horror

#488 REAL GHOSTBUSTERS – HIGHWAY HAUNTER (1987)

This is one of the Real Ghostbusters toys I keep since the early 90s. I received it a long time ago for Christmas together with the Ecto-2. A friend of mine at school already had it, and I thought it was fun, but I didn´t expect to receive it. The vehicle belongs to the second Real Ghostbusters wave, to which also the Fright Features characters and the Haunted Humans belong, so the "Highway Haunter" somehow fits in that "Ghosts in Disguise" line.

As you can notice, the vehicle is actually a Volkswagen Beetle in yellow, looks pretty well, except for the trunk being slightly up (the trunk in this car is in the front, so a little bit more weight there would have been great). The interior in black is very well detailed, and has place for two figures. The upper part or the seats is actually a button that activates the transformation when pressed. The car "stands" up in its rear wheels and reveals a green insect-ghost. Meanwhile the figures remain in their places. The Insect, as I just said, stands on all four wheels and can be pushed further.

As every other (or almost) Real Ghostbusters´ vehicles, an additional ghost figure is included, in this case the figure can be placed under the bonnet (rear compartment), and it has two faces, one being the ghost itself and the back (the back of the ghost) simulates a motor.

The box is the original one, as you could buy it in Spain. In this entry, I explained how do I think that these figures came to Spain, and why the packages of the toys are written in French and Dutch. Unfortunately, one of the flaps is broken and lost.

The cardboard inlay is also original, and there I found two nice things: a poster/catalogue (I had two of them, one from each vehicle, and one of them hang during several months on my bedroom´s wall). The poster depicts the Ecto-1 plus all 4 Ghostbusters hunting Slimer.

The second thing was the quality control sheet, which I reproduce here for completing purposes.
