I am showing today four MC Toy cars which represent Japanese models. You can review my previous articles in which I explained some facts about MC Toys here (#390) and here (#391), or you can click on label MC Toy to see everything published about this brand.
I bought these four many years ago and have never been used, that’s why they’re mint. These models look absolutely great. From the perspective of the European collector they’re interesting models, since they’re models which have only been manufactured as a toy by brands like Tomica, and therefore they were difficult to find.
TOYOTA MR-2 (Ref. 8619) and NISSAN MID-4 (Ref. 8737)
MC TOY - TOYOTA MR-2 (Ref. 8619) and NISSAN MID-4 (Ref. 8737) |
MAZDA RX-7 (Ref. 8738)
MC TOY - MAZDA RX-7 (Ref. 8738) |
Note the nice tampography work in all four models. Although it was not perfect yet, it was much better than the work of their competitors.
UPDATE (May/2020):
FACTS AND FIGURES:
- Name: TOYOTA MR-2 (Ref. 8619),
TOYOTA HILUX SR5 (Ref. 8621),NISSAN MID-4 (Ref. 8737) and MAZDA RX-7 (Ref. 8738) - Scale: 1:64 (approx.)
- Year: The two first digits in the reference number indicates the year of design and manufacture, so: 1986 and 1987.
- Company: MC Toy (U.S.A./ Macau)
- Size: approx. 3’’ or 7 cm
If I'm not mistaken Maistoo later (nearly middle or end of 1990-s) released solid collection of 20 1:64 scale models in one box and Mazda RX-7 and Toyota Hilux SR5 are were in that collection. But, unfortunately, I dont know exact year of release.
ReplyDeleteHi Alex,
DeleteYes Maisto and MC Toys are actually the same brand. You are right, by the mid-90s, the company changed the name and started selling the same all cars in slightly different colours/decorations.
You can find more about Mc Toy/Maisto here: http://toysfromthepast.blogspot.de/search/label/MC%20Toy
Many thanks for the comment!
Juan
Hello Juan,
DeleteThank you very much for this link and articles.
I have this collection of 20 cars I told before and, unfortunately I have lost Mazda RX-7 and some others and it was a big pleasure to see this beatiful car again.
Thanks for pictures again.
Alex.
I have the rx7. I just found a bag of toys from my childhood and am researching. Are these worth anything?
ReplyDeleteHi David,
DeleteUnfortunately, these cars are not worth much. Currently there are lots available on eBay for 5 Euro or less (in good and very good condition). My guess for this brand is that they will be more valuable in the future, mostly the MC Toys version (not sure about the Maisto versions).
Regards,
Gog
this was always a bit annoying , the RX 7 is too big compared to the Hilux, in real life it's the oposite
ReplyDeleteTrue, I guess the scales are only orientative and can vary quite a lot. Cars are usually around 1:64, trucks around 1:100 or 1:110, so they are all 3 inches long and theycan be sold for the same price. This fact is often referred as scale 1:box, meaning that all models (independently of the size of the real vehicle) have to fit in a certain length.
ReplyDeleteMany thanks again for your comments and for letting the information of all those variants you own.
Hi TFTP! I'm mentalpower (from the uno64 forum). I just realized the re is a little error in this post. The Toyota SR5 casting by M.C.Toy/Maisto is *not* this one you show here, but the one you can see in https://www.hobbydb.com/marketplaces/hobbydb/catalog_items/road-warrior
ReplyDeleteThe baja truck you show is based on a Ford F-series Stepside.
Hi mentalpower, many thanks for the comment! You are absolutely right! I'll correct the entry as soon as possible. It is the first time I see this SR5 model, and I thought I knew MC toy very well... I will take a look at the listings I have to see if there is a second reference in which the Dust Devil may fit.
DeleteChanges done! Thank you very much! You are right, the Ford F-150 Flareside is ref 8739 from 1987. Toyota Hilux SR5 was released one year earlier, in 1986.
