Micro Machines released a very short series of American Nascar racers consisting of three miniatures and a trading card. Each set was devoted to one famous pilot, whose picture appeared in the card, together with a short bio and race stats.
The miniatures vary from set to set, but the racing car is obviously always included. Other miniatures are the team truck, motorhome or other smaller vehicles, like ambulances, tow-away truck, fire brigade van…
It is interesting to mention that there were only 5 collections made in this series, although they were originally intended to be 9. Four of them were only produced as prototype sets, but we don’t know why. Maybe some license problems with the drivers or the sponsors?

The Stock Car Superstars series collections were:
#1 – Richard Petty – Pontiac, Semi-Truck with Box Trailer and Motorhome
#2 – Mark Martin – T-Bird, Semi-Truck with Box Trailer and Van
#3 – Ken Schrader – Lumina, Semi-Truck with Flatbed Trailer and Rescue Truck
#4 – Sterling Marlin – T-Bird, Semi-Truck with Flatbed Trailer and Box Van (Ambulance)
#5 – Bill Elliot – T-Bird, Semi-Truck with Box Trailer and Tow Truck
#6 – Derrick Cope – Lumina, Semi-Truck with Flatbed Trailer and Pickup
#7 – Bobby Hamilton – Lumina, Semi-Truck with Box Trailer and Van
#8 – Rusty Wallace – Pontiac, Semi-Truck with Box Trailer and Motorhome
#9 – Harry Gant – Pontiac, Semi-Truck with Box Trailer and Motorhome
Collections #2, #7, #8 and #9 were only produced as prototype sets.
For a better play experience, there were a few playsets made, a box with an oval circuit on it and garages, plus two smaller circuits that you take in your hands and by moving them, the cars rolls.
The famous “Speed Shop Customizing Set” from 1990 was reissued as “Pit Kit” in yellow, but with a black handle. This is much rarer than the original yellow or the red ones, but it still affordable, doesn’t cost much more than the original one.
UPDATE (June/2024): Attention because I have this set. I do not recall where did I buy it, but it has been with me for at least 5 years now. I think it might be the colelction #2 "Mark Martin" with stock car, semi-truck and van. I have read at joescurios.com that this might be a pre-production set, as it includes the van instead of the Shell tanker semi. It might be a rare set. If you have any information about it, and you want to share it with me, leave a message below.
