#902 FIGURAS EN ACCIÓN (F.E.A.) Nr. 18 + GOOD TIMES - KULT! Nr. 17 (1/2018)

Since the new year I am publishing only two entries per month instead of 11, and because the Figuras En Acción magazine is still being published twice a year, I have decided to merge all reviews for publications I read together with the F.E.A. releases. 

F.E.A. Nr.18

I´ll start by announcing the release of the 18th issue of the magazine, as always free to download, add-free, without registration.

This number comes with a mixed lot of articles and some news. We try to bring something new in every number, and this time is something quite important. We have now set a cooperation with the Podcast La Cueva del Terror, in which they will send us one article per number. This will ensure a minimal dose of Masters of the Universe in each number.

Other articles in this number include a extensive analysis of the Creature of the Black Lagoon, centered on the character, movies and related toys; an article about Comics Spain's Dungeon and Dragons figures; basketball players from Star Toys (for Kellogg´s), Yolanda and other companies; the surprise envelopes "Sorpresa Monstruo" by Patapalo and two great interviews: the first one with the person behind Tecleador.com (repro and custom accesories for 1/6 scale action figures like Madelman) and the second one with Walter Harris, creator of the action figure toyline Hammer of the Gods. Still a couple of surprises on top of that.

KULT! Nr.17

After a while without buying KULT! I got number 17 last Christmas and I read it back then. The magazine remains without big changes after a while, at least at first sight. I have realised that there are many more collaborators now than 2 or 3 years ago, and this is a symptom that things go well for them. They have also released three special issues in the last year, and the one dealings with cars looks very very interesting. The other two focus on Police TV series and western movies and series. Good for them!

This number 17 comes with another article on Matchbox (there was already at leat one on this same topic published in a previous number), and another on Barbie. That is everything related to toys, but there are also lots of other interesting articles like furniture and home appliances design in the 70s, Captain Future, Ivanhoe, Nena, Ásterix, Eskimo Ice Creams and many more, everything mixed up with no order in the Kult! style we love.

#436 GOOD TIMES - KULT! Nr. 10 (2/2014)

The new issue of Good Times (it is not “new” anymore, since it was released a few months ago) has again a bunch of articles related to toys, just as it happened in the ninth issue… great!

Toy articles that I’d like to point out:
-40 years of Playmobil
-Steiff (the famous German teddy bears)
-The toy industry in Sonneberg (Germany)

Especially interesting is the third one, written by Kati Naumann. It is a very long article talking about many small toy manufacturers that existed in this city some decades ago. The article contains lots of pictures.

For some reason, this last article has a layout with three columns, that in my opinion, makes it quite difficult to read. I guess the guys from Kult! have to fit everything in a certain number of pages…

The rest of the magazine contains as usual topics related to cars (Mercedes Class C), motorbikes (Yamaha XT 500), football (Schalke 04 from 1972), TV series, films, comic books, music or food (Sugus).

#353 GOOD TIMES - KULT! Nr. 9 (1/2014)

I just bought and read the new issue of Good Times: Kult! magazine, and it was one of the most interesting issues so far. I was a bit disappointed with the last number (which wasn´t even reviewed in this blog), because there was not even a single article on toys. Well, for this number (it is already number 9), there are plenty of articles about toys: the first one deals with Matchbox´s Superfast series, the second one about the German construction game "Fischertechnik" (some kind of Lego Technic from the 60s and 70s) and if that was not enough, there´s also an article about the cult football game "Tipp-Kick", which is now gaining popularity again. I have never played it, but I had the chance to see people playing it, and it looks real fun. This game also plays an important role in the German movie "Aus der Tiefe des Raumes... mitten ins Netz!".

Toys are not the topic of the article dedicated to Captain Future, but there are a couple of lines about this rare figures from the 80s.

In other categories, there are articles about Porsche 911, and the usual mixture from movies, music, television, books and comic books, food... plus some other articles which do not fit in any of the previous categories.

Something new from this number is that it comes with a dvd which is a German Sci-Fi Pulp magazines catalogue, which were very popular between the 40s and the 80s. I think there are many collectors in Germany who search for these "Hefte" and collect their favorite series (some series can have thousands of issues!). The cover art is always great, so it is nice to see all those illustrations (Perry Rhodan, for example).

#221 GOOD TIMES - KULT! Nr. 7 (1/2013)

The latest issue of Kult! is since a few weeks out. I bought this last issue (and the first also, which I didn’t have yet) on ebay, which is an alternative to ordering them on the official site or buying them in your local store. The shipping costs are 3 Eur for Europe, no matter how many magazines you're ordering. I’m quite happy, because now I have all the 7 magazines that have been published so far.

Nr. 7 comes, as usual, with a mixture of articles dealing with cars, movies, music, toys, comics and many more things.

This time we find an interesting article about toys based on space exploration, moon landing, planets, robots... plus a short article about chritmas toy catalogues. Another article deals with magic boxes, which can also be considered as toys. 

Another of the most interesting articles in this issue is one dealing with Michel Vaillant, the comic character created by Jean Graton. A new comic book will be released soon... I was always fascinated by these comics in which the cars were depicted so realisticly, all of them real models, and even with real characters on their stories, like for example Michael Schumacher. 

Apart from this, there are articles about the Moon-Landing, Hawaii 5-O, Russ Meyer, J.R.R. Tolkien, the comic book from "Lustige Taschenbücher", Volvo PV444/PV544, plus many more articles and, of course, the news and kult!-books sections.

#165 GOOD TIMES - KULT! – Nr. 6 (2/2012)

The last issue of Kult! comes with another bunch of great articles. This time there are three (3!!!) articles dealing with toys, what makes me very happy. These three articles are:

• One dealing with tin animal toys, made between the 1800s and 1960s. The article is based on a mobile exposition that has been already shown in some german cities, and that continues on tour but also on the book “Mechanische Tierwelt”/ “Mechanical Animal World” by Köpcke and Weinhold, which is probably a very interesting book to read too, and that is the perfect partner to the exposition.
• The second article is an overview of toy cars made after movies and tv series. Among the models shown, is James Bond’s Aston Martin, already shown here.
• The third article is a three-page article talking about card decks and “quartetts”, mostly from the 60s and the 70s, and showing a great variety of very interesting decks. In this blog we also showed some interesting decks of cards, check here.

The rest of the magazine is also extraordinarily interesting, as usual, we can find articles about movies and TV series (Hitchcock, Charlie´s Angels, War films), cars (BMW Isetta, Simson), books and comic books (Tintin), music and much more… guaranteed not to bore!

#91 GOOD TIMES - KULT! Nr. 5 (1/2012)

A new edition of this great magazine is out now!

There are two toy articles to be found in this number: the first one deals with Wiking miniatures, (mostly cars in H0 scale, made in Germany), while the second one deals with the german/scottish plastic figures by Timpo Toys. Other articles that you may find interesting are one about the Renault 4L, football sticker collections or 60 years of Mickey Mouse. Like any other (previous) number, the selection of articles is great, dealing with many different topics, which makes it very amusing to read. If you can read german, you’ll enjoy it.

Look for it in big bookstores! The price is 6.50 Euros in Germany, 7.50 Euros in Austria and 12.70 CHF in Switzerland, although it can be ordered on their website too.

#43 GOOD TIMES - KULT! Nr. 4 (2/2011)

I discovered this magazine during my holidays last summer. I had to change the flight in Berlin's airport and I visited the newspaper kiosk as usual. There was a magazine that fully captured my attention; I had never seen something like that before, a magazine about pop culture in the 60s, 70s and 80s? I couldn't help but buy it!

I read the magazine during the following week, and I liked it very much. There are articles about toys (that was what captured my attention at the first place), but also about old comic books, cars, TV series and movies, and of course music (the same guys who make this magazine also publish a rock magazine with artist from the past decades). Each article is completely different from the previous one, so it's very amusing to read.

I definitely wished there was more about toys on it, but since it's the only "professional" magazine that dares to talk about toys, I felt I had to write this article. If you're interested in vintage toys, and if you read this blog, you'll probably be interested in vintage cars, or sci-fi characters that come from comics, or even in movies that got to release their main characters as action figures. Everything is in, this is the definitive pop-culture magazine for german speaking countries.

So, if you live in Germany, go and get the last number of this wonder. It costs 6,50 Eur and includes an article about the slot cars Carrera, The Muppets show, Jaguar E-Type, Westerns (movies), Donald Duck comic books and many more. Also worth mentioning, there's a very interesting news section called "news from the past".

If you live in Austria or in Switzerland, you can possible order it in a good book store. I did it like that with the last number, and this one came by itself (in these countries it costs 7,50 Eur and 12,70 CHF).
