#1094 FIGURAS EN ACCIÓN (F.E.A.) Nr. 34

Well, here's the last issue of Figuras En Acción, the magazine I currently direct and that regularly appears every May and every December since the end of 2009. I don't know or recall any other publication, podcast or video series that lived longer that that.

Our commitment is to bring articles and information about toylines which are not so well-known or popular, and to talk about topics which are interesting but about which there is not so much information on the internet.

This time we talk about COPS n' Crooks by Hasbro, Xena: Warrior Princess by Toy Biz and Mattel's Picture Maker.

Another article deals with the year 1978, cultural highlights, you releases, movies and TV... and the promotions made by Bimbo in Spain, as well as by other companies.

And also, a remarkable interview with Roberto Carlos Ramos Patras, who, apart from being our colleague and collaborating with the magazine since years, has recently released a book about Madelman 2050. The book  is a must for every sci-fi fan, not only to M2050 collectors, as he develops and extends the story behind these characters beyond the mini comics.

As usual, we also comment the news, a "treasure" toy, books, toy museums and other surprises.

Just two clicks away, free and without adds or registers. Take a look at it HERE

#1087 MASTERS DEL UNIVERSO - GUÍA VISUAL DE LA PELÍCULA

This book was written by a friend of mine and fellow Masters of the Universe collector (among many other toys and figures), and I had the honor of writing the prologue. It is a comprehensive compilation of all kinds of material related to Masters of the Universe, the movie directed by Gary Goddard and produced by Cannon Films.

The book spans more than 300 pages and includes press articles, magazines, posters, cinema promotional material, video and DVD releases, multiple versions of the original soundtrack in different formats, toys, photographs, and many other items you wouldn’t even imagine. The author has been collecting this memorabilia since the movie premiered in 1987.

All this material (including publications from around the world) has been compiled into a scrapbook-style volume by Applehead Team, a publisher from Spain. The book is in Spanish, but aside from the introductory pages of each chapter, it can be followed easily even if you don’t speak the language.

The result is truly impressive. When I first saw it, I couldn’t believe how well it had been put together. Within the collector community it has been selling very well, with many requests coming from Germany, the United Kingdom, France, and other countries. I believe this trend will continue for years, as it is still relatively unknown within the MotU community.

You can read more about it and purchase it here. You can also follow the author on Instagram or on his personal blog.

#1084 FIGURAS EN ACCIÓN (F.E.A.) Nr. 33 + RACK TOYS. CHEAP CRAZED PLAYTHINGS

Another year comes to its end and the newest issue of Figuras en Acción is out for everybody to enjoy it. This time, the articles deal mainly with toys from the 70s, with some bits of 80s and 90s toys as well.

The cover article deals with the figures of Hercules The Legendary Journeys by ToyBiz. In it, we  review all released figures including variants plus some other related toys. This article is followed by a shorter one dealing with the 80s bootleg crossover between Masters of the Universe and the Ninja Turtles called Amicable Herculeans.

Spanish Toys are also present this time with an extensive article on the history of Juguetes Rico and his most iconic toy: the Mini-Sanson truck, which is based on the Tiny Tonkas made by Tonka. But was it licensed or a mere knock-off? We discuss this issue as well.

The following article is another superextensive one dealing with the egg-shaped children figures Weebles, with a focus on the Spanish Weebles (made by Brekar), but commenting as well those from Hasbro, Airfix.

Finally, we analyse the Transtech concept of Transformers, what should have been in the early 2000s but it finally wasn´t.

There are lots of other smaller pieces and sections that you will also enjoy. And remember that the magazine can be downloaded for free, as usual, as all the previous issues in our blog.

figurasenaccion.blogspot.com

Rack Toys is a book published by the Plaidstallions website and the Nacelle Company. The object of the book are cheap rack toys from the 70s and early 80s, and most pictures come from the collection of Brian Heiler, whose father used to be toy merchant at that time and made business distributing this particular type of toys.

The book is divided in several chapters, such as superheroes, monsters, TV shows... but the toys shown are so different from each other, that it is a pleasure to pass the pages and let you surprise for whatever comes next. Most of the brands that made these toys were unknown to me, I had only heard about Imperial, AHI, Lincoln or Fleetwood Toys before, and not much about each of them.

The book has almost no text (just the introduction by Brian Heiler and a prologue), and the toys are commented in short captions. This is not very annoying, as the pictures are descriptive enough and there is not much to say about them, but there is something I disliked about the book, and it is that they only focus on very popular themes, leaving out everything else: for example cars and vehicles of any kind (except Batmobiles and co.), starships that do not belong any TV series or dinosaurs. I guess they just wanted to attract the broadest group of toy collectors and chose the most mainstream topics, probably also leaving many other pictures for a second publication.

#1071 FIGURAS EN ACCIÓN (F.E.A.) Nr. 32

The latest issue from Figuras En Acción can be downloaded from the blog (as all the other previous issues) for free. I always recommend it to all toy enthusiasts and collectors worldwide. Nowadays, with automatic translation from image on everz smartphone, it is very easy to understand any printed form of information.

This time I wrote about the Power Rangers subline from Micro Machines, the Adventure 2000 by Matchbox, the X-Ploratrons by Corgi and a G.I. Joe bootleg called Spaicel Force. Other colleagues wrote about Max Thunder (aka Famoman), the Action Man knock-off from the late 90s and the speed tracks by Pilen (whose cars were copied from Darda).

There are other sections dealing with Scalextric or Exin Castillos, and many other surprises inside.

Please download it now followin this link: Revista on line FIGURAS EN ACCIÓN: REVISTA Número 32 - Mayo 2025

Thanks and enjoy the reading!

#1061 FIGURAS EN ACCIÓN (F.E.A.) Nr. 31 + OTHER PUBLICATIONS

Back to work after Christmas? Maybe some entertainment will make you good. Try downloading the latest issue of Figuras En Acción, and read it. In these pages you will find interesting and well documented articles about Exin toys, Sgt. Savage and the Screaming Eagles (by Hasbro), The Adventures of the Galaxy Rangers (by Galoob), promotional die-cast and plastic vehicles from Spain.

After some issues without, we interviewed Pablo García del Río, author of the published book: "Masters del Universo. Guía visual de la película", which you may want to buy if you are a Cannon Films or Masters of the Universe fan, or if you simply loved the movie from 1987. The book depicts a huge collection of merchandising and memorabilia from that movie, something worth having and reviewing every now and then.

There are also a series of smaller sections, as usual, with a huge variety of topics. The magazine ist a gift to all fellow collectors and toy or action figures enthusiasts throughout the world.

Find it HERE.

Among other publications, I have read, there are these two catalogues I received for Ferrero Kinder Surprise chocolate eggs. They are much newer than the ones I had until now, and also much thicker, they include more details and more comprehensive lists and foto collections. Still, they do not cover all Kinder Surprise toys, because there are further books to be bought. The one on the left is only for plastic figures, while the one on the right side is only an addendum to the 6. Edition.

#1046 FIGURAS EN ACCIÓN (F.E.A.) Nr. 30

The new issue of Figuras En Acción is out and ready to be downloaded, this time we wrote in depth about Power Lords by Revell and Sectaurs by Coleco, two rather obscure toylines worth discovering.

We also have a short article dealing with the trading cards made by Lázaro Totem depicting all kinds of monsters that can be collected in an album. The name of this collection is Monstruos Alucinantes. We already interviewed him (in the issue n. 27) and talked about a previous work of this type called Cromotropia.

And finally, another article dealing with Praise Unlimited and Rainfall, the two american toy companies specialized in christian toys. It was a challenge to find the very few bits of information on the web and putting them all together, not sure if many people will be interested in this one!

The magazine has 113 pages. Past issues were longer and included more articles, but this time we had some issues and had to leave some material for the nr. 31, which will be available next December.

You can find the download link in the official blog:

Enjoy!

#1036 FIGURAS EN ACCIÓN (F.E.A.) Nr. 29 + ¡¡¡ME LO PIDO!!! + MOSQUEPERROS Y PIRATAS

This is the cover from the latest issue of Figuras En Acción (short: FEA), and, as you can see, we bring a mixture of topics as heterogeneous as it gets.

The main articles deal with toys from the TV series Maple Town (with a special focus on Spanish merchandising), the off-road Scalextric STS 4x4 made in Spain by Exin, an extensive article about Matchbox´s Regular Wheels era, never-seen before paper documents from the manufacturing process of Laser Light Skeletor (the European exclusive figure that closed the vintage Masters of the Universe toyline) and another article about the rare vintage action figure toyline Ninja: Assassins vs. Defenders.

We include again an interview with Jon Diez de Ulzurrun, that deals mostly with the third volume of the Informe Madelman books.

There are several other sections which may interest you as well, such as news, vintage advertisements, museums and book comments, so the contents are even broader.

The magazine can be downloaded for free (no registration required) from the official blog of Figuras En Acción. Search for the download link here: https://figurasenaccion.blogspot.com/2023/12/revista-numero-29-diciembre-2023.html

Other publications worth commenting:

!!!Me lo pido!!! (Jorge Navarro Fortuno)

This book was issued last Christmas and I was lucky to get one copy at the time. It is a collection of pictures, like a giant Christmas catalogue, sorted by toymakers, but, on top of that, there are long descriptions of the history of each of the companies mentioned in the book, as provided by great specialists, collectors or the owners (the their heirs) of those companies. It is therefore a must for everybody who would like to learn more about Spanish toys from the last decades, or for people willing to discover those jewels, unique to Spain, which were designed and manufactured mostly before the country was open to fluid commercial relationships with Europa and the United States.

The book has around 400 pages and deals with around 150 toy companies. Some of the companies, of course, are more important than others, so, wherever there is a toyline which was especially popular, you will also find notes about it in particular, additionally to the history of the company who was responsible for that success. For example, in the pages dedicated to Exin, you will also find subchapters talking about Exin Castillos only, Tente, Scalextric or Ibertrén.

Mosqueperros y Piratas... (Álex Algarra)

This publication is the third volume of a series dealing with Spanish PVC figures. Volume 1 was dedicated to Comics Spain, volume 2 to Comansi, Yolanda and Novolínea (all three are actually the same) and this third one deals with all the other manufacturers there are (or have been) manufacturing this type of toys in Spain.

I only own this third book, as I wanted to see if I could find more information on those smaller companies that made figures I like, but from which there is no information at all on the Internet. This books partially succeeds: the figures made by those companies are ALL reproduced in these pages (so it makes also a good collector´s guide), but the information is only to be found partially. I guess many of these smaller companies operated only for a couple of years and disappeared or changed names and production, so there is no place to investigate or no person to be contacted. Still, the book is great and collects everything that is is currently to be found about those companies, plus the comments and facts that the author gathered through decades of collecting plastic figures and commenting them with a group of fellow collectors.

It still surprises me how less is known about these toys. Many things I read in German catalogues or in older articles on the Internet is wrong, and even today, people are discovering figures nobody knew they existed, as it happened last October, when a tyrannosaurus from Comics Spain was found for the first time, and later sold for over 370 euro on todocoleccion.net. To this respect, I think it is great that Alex Algarra put everything down on paper as a landmark for all future enthusiast and collectors.

#1023 FIGURAS EN ACCIÓN (F.E.A.) Nr. 28

This time we chose a slightly different cover story, as we are going for My Little Pony. This toyline is 40 years old and it was a nice occasion to review all the series ever made of this neat and cute creatures. We rarely review toylines "for girls" as we do not have the experts for that, but this time we had the chance to collaborate with Perikoala, and we simply couldn´t miss that!

Other big topics are the boardgames made by Edilev in Spain (all of them very rare and sought-after, even thought they are not well designed); Connectors (a.k.a. Socket Poppers) by Matchbox/Ertl/Giocchi Preziosi; a very extensive article about the spanish die-cast models made by Mira which are based on Matchbox, Corgi Juniors or Majorette; a short bio of Kim Simmons, the toy photographer of Kenner and Hasbro for most of their Star Wars toylines and, last, a short and simple discussion about bootlegs and how are they have become popular and expensive nowadays.

The general sections are always there: news, books, travels, old ads, one "treasure" (the Thunderhawk from the toyline M.A.S.K.), and other stuff. Many kinds of toys, figures and games, mixed altogether.

The magazine can be downloaded from the official blog. It is free and completely anonymous (no registration or whatever required) Check this!

#1013 FIGURAS EN ACCIÓN (F.E.A.) Nr.27

Today it is the 6th of January, the day in which children receive presents in Spain from the Three Wise Men.

Please take a look at the new issue of Figuras En Acción, the 27th in more than 13 years. It is also a present for you, since you do not have to pay for it (or register or fill any form), it is directly available from our Google Drive.

This issue has set the record for the highest number of participants, 9 people, and it comes with a series of articles each of them very different to the others. Besides the classic G.I. Joe, Masters of the Universe and E.T., there are other articles about Police Academy (the TV series), concept cars reproduced by the Spanish die-cast manufacturer Guisval, the subline Micro by Tente. This time we also have an interview with Lázaro Totem, who has made a collection of stickers with its album about monsters and other terrorific creatures. It is a delight to  watch his work. The sticker album can be only ordered from and to Spain. At least until further notice.

There are many news commented, we visit one museum related to toys and games, we comment some recent publications, and do many other sections worth reading.

Please visit the official blog of the magazine to find this issue. And all the previous 26 too.

The usual sections are also present this time: news, books, museums, the "treasure" analysis, vintage advertisments and more. We had a lot of fun making it, and, as a matter of fact, we are already working in the following issue, that will appear in December 2022.

#988 FIGURAS EN ACCIÓN (F.E.A.) Nr.25 (Especial TV)

This issue is full of toys related to TV contests and TV programs aired on the Spanish TV from the early 60s to around 1998, plus an extensive article dealing with movies whose main character is a toy. It is, so to speak, a thematic issue, from which we already made a few in the past.

The articles deal with the following TV Programs and toys.

-El Rescate del Talismán (known in Great Britain as Knightmare) - The Board Game

-El Gran Juego de la Oca - The Board Game

-American Gladiators - Action Figures by Mattel

-PVC figures of famous TV people and characters, made by Spanish manufacturers.

-Familia Telerín, the famous TV program and some of its merchandising.

-Movies with toys in a leading role.

-Lingo - The Board Game

-Transformers vs. G.I. Joe - Only Humans

It is the longest issue up to date (with 189 pages) and it was again a lot of fun and effort to create it together with the rest of the colleagues there.

As always, it can be downloaded from their official blog for free and without any need of registration or hassle. One click, and you have it.

If you are a Masters of the Universe fan, you should not miss this issue, because here you will find articles about Jinetes del Espacio, a MOTU-bootleg series by a small Spanish company called JUYBA, the Demolition Man action figures and a special review of the He-Man New Adventures character named Sagitar or Tharkus (depending on which side of the Atlantic you are).

But that is not all! We also talk about the vehicles from the Mini Bruder (or Bruder Mini) series, made in Germany in the 80s  and the 90s and elsewhere until today.

#965 FIGURAS EN ACCIÓN (F.E.A.) Nr. 23 “ESPECIAL SALUD: MEDICINA Y PROFESIONALES SANITARIOS”

Here I bring the new issue of Figuras En Acción, this time we decided to make a special issue dedicated to the people who cope daily with the coronavirus: doctors, nurses, pharmacists, ambulance drivers, scientists trying to find the vaccine and many others.

For me, and for many others, they are true heroes, but, unlike in the first phase (from February to June 2020), they are not getting enough recognition these days. That is why we took  this decision, and made almost 120 pages full of toys related to medicine, health, and everything related.

It is completely free and open to everybody. Just click on this LINK to go to the official blog, and there you will find the link to the magazine. Thanks and enjoy!

#951 FIGURAS EN ACCIÓN (F.E.A.) Nr. 22 + MODELLEISENBAHNER + PUPPEN AUS PORZELLAN (A-L. Klink)

Figuras En Acción Nr.22 (May 2020)

New issue uploaded and ready, this issue is a bit shorter than usual (almost 80 pages) because many of our collaborators (including myself) have been very busy during the last months, and not only because of the pandemics.

Still, we keep our promise and we managed to collect a bunch of great articles dealing with:
  • G.I. Joe and Transformers crossover figures.
  • Superman the Movie Madelman vs. Super Geyperman
  • Computer Force / Computer Warriors by Mattel
  • Rubber ducks
  • Travelling toys
  • All the usual sections (books, travels, treasures, news, editoral office…)
  • Plus a new section of vintage advertisements/publicity.
Don’t miss it! As usual, it is completely free, no registration required.

Modelleisenbahner (3/2014)

I found this old magazine (2014) of Modelleisenbahner in a bookcase close to the place where I work, where people leave old books and stuff they do not want or need anymore. I took it out of curiosity, and read it. I was fascinated by the quantity of releases and news about electric trains, tutorials, research about real trains and railways… it was beautifully done.

I know close to nothing about trains, but since I work on my own toy magazine (see above), I though I might find some ideas for this or that section. I am happy I took it, because the magazine was extraordinary. I do not know how is this hobby evolving, but in recent visits to flea markets, I have seen many great collections being sold. I am afraid this hobby is going downwards. Shame!

Puppen aus Porzellan

In that same bookcase, I found this book dealing with another hobby, which is completely unknown to me: porcelain dolls, and how to make them yourself.

It sounds like something people did a long time ago, but not anymore, I still though it was interesting and took it home and read it. It is short and easy and taught me about this pastime. Amazing that people spent so much time making the porcelain an painting the details, putting eyes, hair and eyelashes. The book is a guide on how to work, which tools to use and more, and it should have been an amazingly difficult task to create your own porcelain doll. It includes a list of collections and museums where porcelain dolls are displayed. The book was published in 1987, so many of these do not exist anymore.

#940 FIGURAS EN ACCIÓN (F.E.A.) Nr. 21 + HE-MAN and THE MEMORY STONE + DAS SPIELZEUG + SPIELZEUG INTERNATIONAL

FIGURAS EN ACCIÓN (F.E.A.) Nr. 21

The publication celebrates this month its tenth anniversary. It was exactly 10 years ago, that the first issue was published. If you look at that first issue today and compare it with this very last issue, you will find many differences. I tried to explain a bit how was the development and the evolution of the magazine. Many people have worked on it and brought their ideas to this project.

We also bring other articles about Nacoral die-cast and plastic models in 1:43 scale, Androids and Invaders by Redondo, Furby (the robotic pet), a curious board game called "La Bola Astral" and finally we interview a cultural association called Tekubi Toy that organizes a great toy event in Albacete.

I hope you like this new issue, let me know if you read it by leaving a comment here or in the official blog of the magazine.

This is the url for the official blog, where zou will find the direct link to the pdf (completely free, not even a registration is required)

HE-MAN and THE MEMORY STONE (LADYBIRD BOOKS)

This was a gift from a friend (thank you Steve!), who probably saw the standard Ladybird books in this blog and decided to send me this one for my collection. I didn´t even know this book existed, because it is much rarer than the previous ones.

It is an adventure book you play with a piece of paper, a pencil and a die. The adventure springs from one point to the next and sometimes you can make a decision on what to do or where to go or maybe you have to fight monsters or evil warriors until you reach Skeletor at the very end. He-Man may "die" during the process, and has to restart the story from the beginning. It is also the first book of this kind I read since 30 years, so it was a nice experience overall, it brought me very good memories.

DAS SPIELZEUG and SPIELZEUG INTERNATIONAL

I borrowed these two magazines and it was an interesting read. They cover all new products and bussiness related information: fairs, retailing and so on. It helped me finding a couple of interesting news that I used in the last issue of Figuras En Acción, but in general, I am not so aware of the brand new toys. It is made for professionals, not for amateurs or collectors, although they will provide a great source of information for collectors in the years to come.

#928 FIGURAS EN ACCIÓN (F.E.A.) Nr. 20

With around one month delay, we bring this new issue of Figuras En Acción. We wanted to make a special issue dealing with G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero, but it was very difficult to achieve this because some colleagues are not familiar with this toyline, so we changed the topic to military/war toys.

The magazine more than 120 pages (more than ever!) and includes articles dealing with Madelman, Plastic Toy Soldiers, H.E/M.A.N., Termitors/ Army Ants, Food Fighters and, of course, G.I. Joe. We have a new collaborator and also an old friend returns for this issue.

This time we interview Jesús Cansino, initiator of a one of a kind, vintage toy museum in the historical town of Osuna. The city has a huge art heritage, being a very rich city in past centuries. In the last years it has become very popular because it was chosen as a filming location for the TV series Game of Thrones, for which there is also a museum there. Please read more about it in the magazine (in Spanish), or in the following links:

The download link can be found in our oficial blog to the magazine. Click HERE.

Thank you!

#916 FIGURAS EN ACCIÓN (F.E.A.) Nr. 19 + THE ZOMBOOK (ALLAN GRAVES)

This is the newest issue of Figuras En Acción. It is a classical issue with a set of various (and varied) articles, in which one article about Chuck Norris Karate Kommandos and other Chuck Norris´ figures tower above the rest.

We also interview Martin Cage from Distinctive Dummies and Miguel De Luna, a Mexican Madelman collector. There are other two great articles dealing with Masters of the Universe 200x and a promotional set of figures from the TV series "Wisdom of the Gnomes" (in Spanish "La llamada de los gnomos"), as well as an article gathering a psychologist´s opinions on different kind of toys, like weapons, soldiers, board games, video games, disguises and so on.

A few other sections complete over 80 pages of vintage toy stories and images: news, books, museums and more.

Free download from the official blog of the magazine:

I continue with another publication I have read in the last months.

The Zombook is not a book about toys, although some pages show toy figures customized as zombies. It is a book about art: painting, drawing, design, photography, make-up... and very different styles: from completely realistic to cartoonish, everything can be found in this eclectic volume.

Allan Graves gathered a group of over 100 international artists to provide the ultimate collection of Zombie art, and compiled everything in an imposing volume (approximately A4 size, hardcover, exquisite printing...) released by Grafitto. The book contains several chapters that follow the different stages of becoming a zombie, starting with "outbreak", and ending with "Apocalypse" and "Survival".

The mixed set of styles through the pages of this book make it fun and even surprising at times. Some of the images have also references to movie, television, celebrities or pop culture in general, and in many cases they have a certain dosis of black humour.

Very highly recommended!

#905 HASBROMANIACS GUIDE TO WWF HASBROS (HASBROMANIACS.COM)

I just received this Hasbro´s Official WWF guide and checklist. This publication has been prepared and done in the last 12 months by Hasbromaniacs, the biggest Facebook community devoted to wrestling toys and figures.

The guide covers all action figures produced by Hasbro between 1990 and 1994, ordered in their 11 waves, plus the mail-aways, the rings, a complete checklist and a couple of pages more dealing with promotional shots Hasbro did for catalogues or promotional purposes, some of them depicting figures whose final version varied in some way from the prototype displayed, or were never mass produced.

Each wave has one or two dedicated pages in which the figures are displayed "loose" but smaller pictures of the carded figures are also available. In the case of the rings, there is a comparison of all variants, and there are also a comparative picture between all Undertakers.

The quality of the paper and the printing are excellent, only with some resolution flaws in the pictures of the catalogues -which are very rare to find-.

There is very few text -in English- in the 24 pages of the guide. It is not a book, but a collectors' catalogue, so it is suitable also for people who do not undestand English.

Hasbromaniacs.com is also an online shop that offers other articles which we could classify in two categories: custom and paper accessories. In the customs category, we see customized figures, as well as several types of champion belts and the neon entry diorama. Among the paper items we see posters, repro stickers (for example for the different types of ring), this guide or even custom cards to figures Hasbro never released.

Apart from the guide, I also have the back-card poster and a WWF logo print in A4 size, which is given away with every guide as a present. The poster is also quite cool and looks perfect near or behind your figure display. It is not very big, approximately has A3 size, while the print is exactly A4 size and has stunning printing quality. The shop is based in Germany, but can ship most of their articles for a very cheap rate: 5 US$ or 3,90 Euro worldwide. Please take a look at what they offer, there are very cool things in there!

A video of the guide can be seen in the Facebook group under this link. Please do not miss this video!! (No Facebook account or login required).
